Bradenton Police officers arrested a 52-year-old man on July 7 for DUI manslaughter after he crashed into a motorcyclist.
Milton May left a local business shortly before 10:15 p.m. on July 7 and was heading eastbound on 42nd Ave W. He went into the path of a motorcycle traveling northbound on 59th St W., traffic homicide investigators said.
The motorcycle passenger, a 35-year-old Palmetto woman, sustained fatal injuries. The 28-year-old motorcyclist, a Bradenton resident, was critically injured and remains in the ICU.
May stayed at the scene of the crash but exhibited signs of impairment, investigators said. After he refused to submit to field sobriety tests, he was arrested and transported to a hospital.
Investigators obtained a warrant for the collection of a blood sample, but the result of the blood alcohol concentration test is pending.
As of July 8, there have been 3,392 crashes in Sarasota County, according to the Florida Crash Dashboard. Of those, there have been 20 deaths and 2,242 injuries. In Manatee County, there have been 3,509 crashes. Of those, there have been 25 deaths and 2,191 injuries.
May will be transported to the Manatee County jail once he receives medical clearance.
He faces charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI with serious bodily injury. Additional charges are possible.
