Two Detroit men accused in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy were found guilty Thursday on charges including murder.
One faces a mandatory life sentence while the other also could be ordered to spend to life behind bars when they are sentenced in September. A third suspect who previously pleaded guilty will spend up to 40 years in prison.
Authorities allege that on July 27, 2025, the suspects fired shots from a vehicle at a group standing near the corner of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue, just north of McNichols Road in the city’s Cadillac Heights neighborhood.
Stray bullets flew into a home in the 17400 block of Anglin Street and struck 6-year-old Rylee Love in the head as the child was playing, Worthy said.
Medics arrived and transported Rylee to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
“Rylee Love was the ultimate innocent victim. The alleged actions of these defendants directly caused his senseless death,” Worthy said in a statement. “I have said many times that bullets have no eyes or sense of direction. The bullets in this case struck a child playing in his house and he will not see another day.”
On Aug. 20, police arrested three suspects, all Detroit residents: Terrance Jaland Blue, 28; Demontrel Benard Wilson, 30; and Deonate Cornealous Cherry, 28.
On Thursday, Blue was found guilty of first-degree murder, discharging firearms from a vehicle causing death and two separate conspiracy charges, Worthy said. Wilson was found guilty of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Both are scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 2.
In Michigan, first-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole while second-degree murder is punishable by any number of years, including a life sentence.
Cherry pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last month. As part of his plea agreement, he will spend 20-40 years in prison, Worthy said.
