Texas A&M has contacted freshman Toledo guard Leroy Blyden Jr. via Zoom as the transfer portal ramps up, per Kannon Torres of On3.
Blyden Jr. impressed in his first collegiate season, dropping 16.4 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 steals as the starting point guard. He picked up a series of honors for his efforts, including MAC Rookie of the Year, All-MAC Third Team, and All-MAC Tournament Team. He finished second in the conference in steals, seventh in points, and seventh in assists.
Blyden Jr. also shot 40.7% from three on 5.6 attempts a night, employing a run-and-gun mentality that could mesh well with head coach Bucky McMillan’s fast-paced system.
The Aggies could be losing a pair of point guards in microwave scorer Pop Isaacs and defensive menace Josh Holloway, who entered the transfer portal on Thursday. With a void in the guard rotation, Blyden Jr. would have a chance to immediately step into the rotation. He also has three years of eligibility remaining, meaning he could become the first top-level point guard to be developed in the Bucky Ball scheme.
