Texas A&M HC Michael Earley preview the SEC Baseball Tournament

Texas A&M baseball is gearing up for another postseason run with the SEC Tournament just days away. While the Aggies won’t know their opening opponent until the bracket settles, head coach Michael Earley already has a long checklist to manage especially with a shorthanded pitching staff.

The goal is always to win every game, but with an NCAA Regional berth already secured, the Aggies must balance competitiveness with preservation. The pitching staff is thin, and the priority is ensuring the top arms are fully rested for next weekend’s regional. That includes ace right-hander Aiden Sims, who is healthy enough to pitch but will be held out as a precaution.

” No, he’s not going to pitch this weekend. He’s great. I mean, he looks great. He’s going to pitch this season.  he’s going to pitch in the postseason, but we’re going to keep him. He’s going to throw when he’s there. He’s going to throw on Thursday and Friday. So, we’re just gonna probably I would say unless he just feels great, I would say we’re gonna lean way way heavy towards that, we’re just gonna keep him for the regional.”

One player who continues trending upward is junior Gavin Grahovac, who ranks near the top of the team in multiple offensive categories and has collected two prestigious SEC honors this season. He’s no stranger to the SEC Tournament environment, but this year brings a new wrinkle. The ABS challenge system. Grahovac said the team will discuss how to use it strategically, but the core of the game remains unchanged.

“We’re going to talk about strategy once we get there or how we want to use it and what we’re going to do with it. But, at the end of the day, we still got to play baseball. Guys got to throw the plate. We still got to swing that well.”
