Texas A&M’s 2025 signing class features several young players who are slated to see playing time this season, headlined by four-star edge Marco Jones, who recorded an impressive five sacks during the Maroon & White spring game in early April. Jones, who will also play baseball with the Aggies, is listed at 6’5″ and 250 pounds and is already one of the more fluid pass rushers at this stage of his career.
Like most programs, versatility along the defensive line is key to developing elite athletes into productive pass rush specialists who thrive off the edge, while also being able to cover the middle of the field. Jones was highly coveted due to his traits, which included possessing the speed and agility required at the next level. He was a tackling machine during his 2024 junior year, recording 149 tackles and two interceptions.

Jones is entering an edge rotation led by senior Cashius Howell, junior Rylan Kennedy, and three additions from the transfer portal, including veteran Dayon Hayes. Head coach Mike Elko made sure to load up this offseason, knowing that the lack of notable depth at defensive tackle won’t be an issue if the new edge group thrives, especially against the run.
Last week, during a segment on TexAgs Live, Billy Liucci had high praise for Jones, who has continued to impress this summer heading into fall camp, and has a great chance to make a significant impact during his 2025 freshman season.
“If i have a true freshman that I would pick to have the biggest impact this season, it’s Marco Jones.”
While this is a brief above-the-surface quote, it’s telling that one of the Texas A&M insiders closest to the program picked Marco Jones as the likely freshman standout a week after heaping praise on five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles a week ago. If Jones quickly lives up to these high expectations, Texas A&M’s defense will more than live up to his preseason billing.
