A 19 year-old Merkel man died when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle Tuesday afternoon, the Abilene Police Department said in a media release.
Taryn Daniel Collins was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Shawna Joiner, the APD said.
The accident occurred at about 2 p.m. at the intersection of South Ninth and Barrow streets, APD wrote in a media release. Collins on his 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was driving north on Barrow.
At South Ninth, a westbound Nissan Murano was halted at the stop sign, the APD said. The driver, a woman unidentified in the release, proceeded to turn onto Barrow.
As it turned, the Nissan collided with the motorcycle, striking the driver’s side door, police said. Collins, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike and subsequently died from the injuries he sustained.
The driver of the Nissan was taken to the hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the APD said. The crash remains under investigation.
