Son of OU legend attends Texas football recruiting camp

Former Oklahoma Sooners running back is one of the greatest college players in the Adrian Peterson 21st century. The recruiting battle in 2004 for the Palestine native between rivals OU and Texas is still talked about and stands as one of the biggest recruiting losses in Longhorns history. But UT may have the edge for his son.

Former Texas coach Mack Brown has said Peterson didn’t go to Texas because he wasn’t promised the starting job.

“Adrian Peterson once said one time I told him not to come. Well, what I did is he asked me, ‘Am I a starter when I walk on campus?’ And I said Cedric Benson is the starter, and he’s really good, and you’ll get to work with him; you’ll be rotating in and out. He wanted to be the starter,” Brown said while he was at North Carolina.

But Peterson’s son seems to have legitimate interest in Texas. Adrian Peterson Jr. has just completed the eighth grade and will be a freshman in the fall at Ridge Point High School in Missouri City near Houston. Despite being in the 2030 recruiting class, Peterson Jr. already has several offers, including from Miami and Florida State.

The Petersons were in Austin over the weekend for “Texas Bash,” a camp UT football holds every year for recruits. It gives the athletes and early look at the program and for Longhorns coaches and recruiting analysts an up close look at the prospects. Peterson’s son is actually a wide receiver, not a running back.

According to On Texas Football, Texas made a good impression on the rising star. This recruiting battle will unfold over the coming years, but it’s good to see UT with an early recruiting relationship.
