As drought drives lower Corpus Christi’s main water sources — Choke Canyon Reservoir and Lake Corpus Christi — the harsh effects are becoming more clear.

Choke Canyon Reservoir is at a historic low. As of Feb. 11, it measured at about 8.8% of its capacity, according to state data.

From boat ramps across Choke Canyon State Park, the low levels are evident. In some cases, the water is withdrawn fully back from the ramps, cracked earth leading to the water; in the more extreme views, entire swaths of land, once shielded from the sun by water, are exposed, leaving only mud and puddles behind.
