Ruiz said that Whitman was an innocent bystander when the shooting occurred about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, on Raynor Street on the block north of Montana Avenue from El Paso police headquarters.

“My niece was absolutely the sweetest young lady. We are going to miss her so much, she was so beautiful,” Ruiz stated.

“We asked the public respect my family and are welcoming all condolences. She was such an innocent victim. We love her and want the public and the media to respect her and our privacy,” he added.

The other woman killed in the shooting was a 21-year-old former model named Mia Molina, according to El Paso Fashion Week organizers and police officials.
