Schroeder steps into new leadership role at Abilene Christian University

Blair Schroeder has been named vice president for advancement and external affairs at Abilene Christian University, according to a media release.

Joining ACU in 2021, Schroeder served as the interim vice president for marketing and communications during the 2022-2023 school year. Before that, he had been the university’s chief planning officer and then the chief strategy officer.

He will be leading ACU’s Advancement division which will widen its mission beyond fundraising, alumni relations and university events to include strategic communications along with government and community relations.

“This role represents an important step forward,” said Dr. Phil Schubert, ACU president. “This expanded model will allow us to tell our story with greater impact, strengthen alumni and donor engagement, and build even stronger relationships with community and government partners.”

Schroeder is a 20-year veteran of professional experience in higher education, business and public affairs, coming to ACU from Cincinnati, Ohio. where he served in leadership roles at Duke Energy and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

“Blair has provided invaluable leadership in advancing our strategic plan and strengthening university partnerships. His efforts were instrumental in ACU’s success during the last Texas legislative session, helping secure more than $100 million in support of the NEXT Lab research initiative,” Schubert said. “I’m thrilled to see him step into this expanded role where he will help advance our mission and continue building relationships.”
