Q: Why are you running for County Clerk, and what experience or qualifications make you prepared to manage this office and its responsibilities?
A: I am running for County Clerk because I love what I do and I feel the citizens of Lubbock County deserve someone in office who knows and understands the daily operations of the office. I have worked in management, record keeping, compliance and customer service. I understand how to manage staff and help the public.
Q: The County Clerk’s office handles vital records, marriage licenses, property records, and numerous other public documents. How would you ensure the office operates efficiently and serves the public well? Are there any improvements or modernizations you would prioritize?
A: I would have clear procedures in place and make sure staff are well-trained. If I see we are short-staffed, I will step in and help where needed. I would prioritize making our systems more user-friendly and providing access to Spanish-language material to better serve our Hispanic community.
Q: The County Clerk’s office must balance customer service with accuracy and legal compliance. Walk me through your management philosophy—how would you run the office, manage staff, and handle the office’s budget?
A: I would be hands-on and support staff. I value teamwork and open communication. Regarding the budget I would make sure I stay within the budget that is provided to me. I believe in using our taxpayers’ money responsibly.
Q: How do you differ from the other candidates in this race in terms of your priorities, experience, or approach to the job? What makes you the best choice for County Clerk?
A: In the eight years that I have worked in the office I have worked in multiple departments, trained new hires and have recently been promoted to Chief Deputy. As I step into my new role of chief deputy I will be working more closely with our current County Clerk taking on more responsibilities and learning from her. I am bilingual and always willing to translate when needed, whether it be in our office or any other office.
Q: Technology and record-keeping systems continue to evolve. How would you approach modernizing the County Clerk’s office while maintaining security and public access to records?
A: I would research new systems thoroughly as they become available to see if any would work for our office. I would also meet with staff and our IT department to see if indeed the new system would be a good fit.
