Two Coastal Bend products were selected the second day of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Ray graduate Jack Martinez (Arizona State) was drafted in the eighth round (pick 243) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Martinez, a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher was 6-4 in his lone season with the Sun Devils, with a 5.47 earned-run average and a career-best 110 strikeouts in 77⅓ innings.
The former Texan also pitched at Trinity and Louisiana in his four-year collegiate career.
Sinton’s Rylan Galvan, a former Caller-Times All-South Texas MVP, was selected by the Chicago White Sox in in the 13th round (pick 376).
Refugio’s Jared Kelley is currently in Double-A in the organization.
Galvan had a breakout season with Texas this season, and was a finalist for the Buster Posey Award annually given to the nation’s top collegiate catcher. The Longhorns junior hit .296 with 15 home runs and 47 RBIs this season.
Martinez and Galvan followed Calallen grad Justin Lamkin, who was selected in the second round to give the area three draftees in 2025.
