Lubbock police officials said an 18-year-old man driving in the I-27 access road crashed into a pole in North Lubbock after he was shot.
Meanwhile, no arrests have been made, and the Lubbock County Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting that sent 18-year-old JaZayden Lozano to University Medical Center with serious injury, according to a Lubbock police news release.
The investigation began after a Lubbock police officer witnessed a passenger car crash into a pole about 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 near the intersection of I-27 and the Marsha Sharp Freeway.
However, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Lozano, appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. He and his 18-year-old passenger, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to UMC for treatment.
An initial investigation indicated that Lozano was driving north in the 300 block of the I-27 access road before he was shot.
