Quarterback Behren Morton found out that he will be heading to New England to begin his NFL career when the Patriots selected him with the No. 234 overall selection. Another former Red Raider gunslinger once began his NFL career with the Pats when they selected him No. 201 overall in 2003. That QB was Kliff Kingsbury.
Morton will likely duke it out with Tommy DeVito and other camp arms for the backup quarterback spot behind Drake Maye. According to USA TODAY Sports, they gave this selection a C+ grade for a player who appears to be a career backup. The book is just starting for this Texas Tech gunslinger.
Morton had his fair share of injury concerns during his time in Lubbock, playing for the team he grew up rooting for. However, he did appear in 45 games during his five-year stint for the Red and Black. He finished with a 62.8% career completion percentage, 8,989 yards, and 71 touchdowns. He sits fourth behind Graham Harrell, Kliff Kingsbury, and Patrick Mahomes on the all-time passing yards and touchdowns list for Tech. Not bad for a guy who has only been the full-time starter over the past 2.5 seasons.
Now the quarterback who led Texas Tech to its first conference title in 31 years will head up north to live out his dream as an NFL player.
