On3 insider feels 'even stronger' about Texas A&M landing 5-star OL

On Monday, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing received a prediction to land 2027 five-star tackle Mark Matthews, who is coming off an unofficial visit to College Station, and after landing a commitment from five-star IOL Kennedy Brown, the Aggies reportedly hold all the momentum for the blue-chip prospect.

However, the Miami Hurricanes, who defeated Texas A&M in the first round of the College Football Playoff, have been the other team to watch for Matthews, but after what has widely been deemed a highly successful visit during the Aggies’ Maroon & White Game on April 18, On3 recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong remains steadfast regarding his prediction.

“Matthews loves the trajectory of the program, has great relationships with several staffers, players on the team and Texas A&M commits and top targets in the 2027 cycle. He feels very comfortable with the SEC program and that’s why the Aggies are in pole position.”

Wiltfong also confirmed that Elko sent several staff members to St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday to meet with the five-star recruit, as Matthews is now in “decision mode” heading into May and is expected to take an official visit to Texas A&M sooner rather than later.

Already positioned as Rivals’ No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting cycle, a commitment from Matthews would all but solidify the top spot. So far, combined with Kennedy Brown, the Aggies have landed commitments from four-star offensive linemen DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott, while five-star linemen Albert Simien and Ismael Camara also remain in the mix.
