The NCAA Softball Tournament continues Saturday after Texas and Texas A&M softball both won first-round regionals as a No. 6 seed and No. 1 seed respectively.
The Longhorns easily handled Eastern Illinois behind XX and the Aggies used a 10-run second inning to put away Saint Francis. Now Texas gets Big Ten champion Michigan while A&M plays Liberty, which won Conference USA for the second straight year. If they win, the cement a spot in the regional final Sunday.
But if they lose Saturday, the Longhorns play the winner of Central Florida vs Eastern Illinois later in the day and the Aggies play the winner of Marist vs Saint Francis.
Texas earned a No. 6 seed after a strong regular season that had a middling 3-3 finish while Texas A&M snagged the No. 1 overall seed Sunday for the first time in program history. The Aggies finished the season with a 45-9 record and, most importantly, 19 wins over top 25 opponents — including a blowout win over the Longhorns in the SEC Tournament.
If UT and A&M advance out of their groups, they’ll host the super regionals as well. Oregon is the seeded opponent Texas A&M could face, and Texas may be pitted against No. 11 Clemson.
