Meet the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's 2026 boys basketball Super Team

Here is the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s boys basketball Super Team for the 2025-26 season. Selections are based on nominations made by coaches.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Shakure Wilbon, Jr., guard, Estacado

Wilbon was one of the best in the state. A Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A all-state selection, Wilbon averaged 26.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Estacado coach Tony Wagner said during the all-state meeting, Wilbon was listed as the second best player in 4A. He was also co-MVP of District 5-4A.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jeron Lawrence, Sr., guard, Brownfield

Lawrence, a TABC all-state selection, averaged 27.6 points to lead Brownfield to the 3A Division I state semifinals. He added 5.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.1 steals per game.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Kade Franklin, Sr., forward, Ropes

Franklin made the TABC all-state team with averages of 19.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 charges-drawn. He was co-MVP of District 5-2A.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Case Micheletti, So., guard, Abernathy

Micheletti returned from a freshman-year injury and shined in his debut. He averaged 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals to make the TABC all-region team. He was also district offensive MVP.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Ryan Bleiker, Jayton

Bleiker once again navigated to the top of the mountain. The longtime Jayton coach led the team to its third consecutive state championship, continuing one of the dominant stretches in 1A history. The Jaybirds cruised past Kennard in the 1A D-II title game to finish 29-3 overall. Jayton lost eight games over the past three seasons.

FIRST TEAM

Lucai Anderson, Jr., guard, Trinity Christian

Anderson averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists to earn TABC all-state and district offensive player of the year.

Tristan Flemons, Jr., guard, Seminole

Flemons, the District 3-4A co-MVP and TABC all-region pick, averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals.

Braddock Foster, Sr., guard, Farwell

Foster made the TABC all-state team with averages of 22.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.8 steals. He was the District 3-2A offensive player of the year.

Tookie Johnson, Sr., guard, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty

Johnson averaged 17.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals to earn TABC all-state honors. He was co-MVP of District 5-4A.

Braeshon Kennard, So., guard, Slaton

Kennard averaged 21.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals to make the TABC all-state team. He was also co-MVP of District 2-3A.

SPARKS OFF THE BENCH

Zack Armes, Sr., guard, New Home

Armes, a TABC all-state selection, averaged 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He was the District 4-2A MVP.

Colt Gentry, Sr., guard, Jayton

Gentry made the TABC all-state team with averages of 18.1 points and 6.7 rebounds. He was also on the all-state tournament team.

Andre Langston, Jr., guard, Estacado

Langston, a TABC all-region selection, averaged 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He was co-offensive MVP of District 5-4A.

Sebastian Sparkman, Sr., guard, Olton

Sparkman, a TABC all-region selection, averaged 19.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists.

Braylon Ward, Sr., guard, Plains

Ward averaged 22.1 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.7 steals to make the TABC all-state team. A Howard Payne commit, Ward was the District 5-2A offensive MVP.

SECOND TEAM

Mikah Blackshear, Jr., guard, Shallowater

Blackshear was a TABC all-state pick after averaging 16.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists. He was the District 2-3A offensive MVP.

Jackson Funk, Jr., forward, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty

Funk, a District 5-4A co-offensive MVP, averaged 14.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals.

Elijah Smothers, Sr., forward, Monterey

Smothers made the all-District 3-5A first team after averaging 19.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals.

Sean Stanaland, Sr., guard, Jayton

Stanaland made the TABC all-state team with averages of 18.0 points and 6.1 rebounds. He was the MVP of the 1A D-II state championship after posting 25 points, 15 rebounds and six assists.

Logan Winn, Jr., guard, Shallowater

Winn earned TABC all-state and District 2-3A co-MVP honors. He averaged 15.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

SPARKS OFF THE BENCH

Darion Duvall, Jr., guard, Abernathy

Duvall averaged 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. He was TABC all-region.

Dominic Fulton, Sr., guard, Plainview

Fulton, the District 3-5A offensive player of the year, averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 44% from beyond the arc and 49.6% overall.

Jordan Garcia, Sr., guard, Seminole

Garcia, the District 3-4A defensive player of the year, averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 3.7 deflections.

Nate Sansom, Sr., post, Whitharral

Sansom, a TABC all-state selection, averaged 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists with 54 steals.

Cutter Stumbo, Sr., guard, Ropes

Stumbo made the TABC all-region team with averages of 17.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He was co-MVP of District 5-2A and made 70 3-pointers.
