Man found guilty of murder in Wichita Falls woman's fentanyl death

A Wichita County jury on Thursday found Wichitan Jakob Joel Blankenship, 23, guilty of murder in the death of Zoe Brewer, 20, according to online court records.

Murder is a first-degree felony in Texas, punishable by 5 to 99 years or life in prison. The same jury will decide his sentence during the punishment phase of the trial in 78th District Court.

A Wichita County grand jury indicted Blankenship in November 2022 on allegations he sold a fatal dose of fentanyl to Brewer, who died April 20, 2022, court records show.

Wichita Falls police identified Blankenship on home video taken April 20, 2022, selling a fentanyl-laced pill to a 20-year-old woman who was found dead a short time later, according to allegations in a court affidavit filed in the case.

Wichita County Jail online records show Blankenship was booked into jail Aug. 29, 2022 and was released from the jail on surety bonds on Oct. 27, 2025.
