Longhorns football welcomes Sterling Berkhalter to campus for visit

Over the last few weeks, the Texas Longhorns have been busy in the transfer portal, adding 18 players. On Thursday, Steve Sarkisian and his staff continued looking for upgrades by welcoming Sterling Berkhalter to campus. The former Wake Forest wide receiver has piqued the interest of multiple schools following a career year.

During the 2025 campaign, Berkhalter set career highs in receptions with 30 and receiving yards with 416. He also found the endzone twice while averaging 13.9 yards per catch. Although the Cincinnati native would not be one of the Longhorns top options, he could be a valuable depth piece in a talented offense.

If the Longhorns add Berkhalter to the mix, he would also bring experience. He has toured the country during his college career, playing for the University of Cincinnati and North Carolina A&T. While splitting time between three programs, the Longhorns transfer target has 1,083 receiving yards and 76 receptions.

Currently, the Longhorns’ wide receiver room includes Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, and Emmet Mosley V. Their depth options include Kaliq Lockett, who was a five-star recruit coming out of college. In the portal, Texas has lost Parker Livingstone, DeAndre Moore Jr., and Jaime Ffrench Jr. While that group will not be easy to replace, Berkhalter could be part of the solution.

Since Berkhalter’s medical waiver has been approved, he only has one year of eligibility remaining. His focus is to find a program that will maximize his skills and help him end his college career with a national title. At Texas, both of those goals would be a possibility.

Over the next few weeks, the Longhorns will be a program to watch as Berkhalter weighs his options.
