Longhorns football loses DB Warren Roberson to transfer portal

After three years with the Texas Longhorns, cornerback Warren Roberson is looking for a new opportunity. The 2023 recruit entered the transfer portal on Monday and is hoping to land with a program that can offer him more playing time. He also has two years of eligibility remaining.

While Roberson only got 26 snaps in his sophomore season, that number rose to 187 as a junior. Starting in 2024, the Texas native became a key special teams piece, seeing time in every situation except field goals. However, that was not the only way he made an impact.

The Red Oak High Alum will finish his Longhorns career with 25 total tackles and two pass deflections. He enters the portal after his most productive season, in which he set career highs in total tackles with 19 and pass deflections with two. With a bigger role, he should be able to build on those numbers.

Although Roberson showed flashes of being a productive piece, there are still some areas of his game that need some work. He was a penalty machine during the 2024 campaign, getting flagged seven times. That was still an issue during the 2025 campaign as Roberson committed five penalties. To secure a starting role, those numbers will need to come down.

As Roberson looks for his new home, he should draw plenty of interest. Before committing to the Longhorns out of college, he received offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Texas Tech. He was ranked as the 23rd-best safety in his recruiting class by 247Sports.

For teams in need of an experienced player in the secondary, Roberson could be a player programs turn to as they continue to fill out their rosters.
