As the Texas Longhorns look to build a future title contender, they got encouraging news on the recruiting front earlier this week. On Friday, Luke Armijo committed to the Longhorns. The talented lefty should be a valuable weapon once he arrives on campus in 2027.
In Armijo, the Longhorns are adding a pitcher who has frustrated competition in high school. In 69 innings, the California native has posted a 2.03 ERA and added six wins to his resume. He has also shown that he can miss bats with 66 strikeouts in 69 innings. Those are encouraging numbers for a player who should continue to improve before reaching the college level.
While the newest Longhorn has been a strikeout machine, he has been hard to barrel up. The La Mirada High School product has held opponents to a .181 batting average. Regardless of who is in the batter’s box, Armijo has shown that he can get anyone out.
Although the 2027 season is still far away, Texas has been busy stockpiling talent. Over the last weeks, they have also secured commitments from RHP/ OF JJ Utash, RHP Becket Berg, and Catcher Lee Holt. With more holes to fill, Jim Schlossnagle is far from done adding talent.
Regardless of what role Armijo is asked to play, he will be an important part of the Longhorns’ future. The Longhorns’ 2027 class is already shaping up to be one of the best in the nation after one of their best seasons in recent memory. Now the focus for Armijo will be to continue improving his game so that when his college career begins, he can reach his full potential.
