Longhorns baseball beats Oklahoma in dramatic fashion

On Friday night, Longhorns baseball started the weekend with fireworks. Against SEC rival Oklahoma, the Longhorns added to the win column in walk-off fashion. In a game that was back and forth all night, Ashton Larson came through in the tenth with a hit he will never forget.

After the Sooners took an early 3-0 lead, Texas chipped away as the night went on. The Longhorns were able to load the bases in the seventh before Josh Livingston drew a bases-loaded walk to get Texas on the board. Then Carson Tinney made Oklahoma pay with a sacrifice fly that made it a 3-2 game. That was not the only damage he did as the talented catcher also sent the game to extras with an RBI single in the ninth.

That helped set the stage for Ashton Larson, who went 2-2 on the night after entering the game as a pinch hitter. His second hit was arguably his biggest of the season. In the bottom of the tenth, he stepped to the plate with one out and runners on first and second. The Kansas native lined a 1-1 pitch to left field, scoring the winning run and sending the Longhorns faithful into a frenzy.

While Larson made headlines with his bat, Texas was able to stay in the game due to the performance of Luke Harrison. In seven innings, he only allowed three runs and struck out six batters. Although it took some time for the Longhorns’ bats to wake up, Harrison kept the game within reach.

Once Harrison’s day was done Sam Cozart was called upon and he continued to impress. In three innings of work, the talented freshman did not allow an earned run and struck out three batters. Cozart’s latest scoreless outing dropped his ERA on the season to 2.18 ERA.

The Longhorns will be back in action on Saturday as they look to complete the sweep. It would be their first sweep of Oklahoma in 12 years.
