Football season is finally here in West Texas, and high school teams around the area will kick off the Week 3 action on Friday.
Local teams are still trudging through non-district schedules, but here are some key matchups to watch.
The area’s leading rusher, Christian Villarreal, and the Ozona Lions travel to Brady to take on the Bulldogs, who finished 8-3 last season and are 2-0 this year after downing Mason 24-22 last week. Abilene Cooper visits San Angelo Central as the Bobcats look for their first win against coach Mark Smith’s alma mater. The Class 3A DII No. 3 Wall Hawks travel north to take on the #A DI No. 10 Jim Ned Indians, which always turns into a tightly contested matchup.
On the six-man side, Sands at Garden City, Rankin at Westbrook, Robert Lee at Ira, and Bronte at Veribest can all surprise.
Here is how to follow along with West Texas, Concho Valley and San Angelo high school football action in Week 3.
