The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District has added two new components to its mosquito control program, according to a media release from the city.
The district has added a “Wide Area Larvicide Sprayer”to its fleet. The technology uses a special system to distribute larvicide droplets over a broad area, allowing treatment materials to reach difficult-to-access mosquito habitats.
The release said the system is effective for targeting container-breeding mosquitoes and other hidden larval habitats that are often inaccessible during routine inspections.
It said the technology is particularly valuable where mosquitoes develop in:
The release said the district has also modernized its mosquito complaint and surveillance system through a new software program.
Residents may now submit mosquito complaints online directly to field operations, allowing complaints to be assigned, tracked, and managed in real time.
“Technicians can receive assignments in the field, investigate reported mosquito activity, document findings and implement appropriate control measures more efficiently than ever before,” the media release said.
Residents may report mosquito concerns through the Health District’s online service request system:survey123.arcgis.com/share/71ef45d1cdbc49ba99b0ca34ff67184f.
