Of all the contributors for the Houston Rockets during the 2025-26 season, Tristen Newton may be the hardest to grade. After appearing in just eight games during his rookie season as a second-round pick, Newton signed a two-way deal with the Rockets in January, moving to his third team in two seasons.
Newton only played one game with Houston, a blowout 31-point victory against the Memphis Grizzlies as the season neared a close in April. In 12 minutes of garbage time, Newton showed his skill, as the former UConn shooting guard scored 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting, including 2-for-5 shooting from 3-point range. He also grabbed three rebounds and recorded one steal with zero turnovers. While Newton didn’t receive any opportunities after that, this was a solid debut. Looking ahead to next season, Newton will still be with the Rockets, with one more season on his current two-way deal.
