January brought a mix of business openings and closings, along with new restaurants and upcoming announcements. From confirmation of H-E-B #2 to the closing of an iconic rooftop bar, here’s what happened in January 2026.
In 2023, January saw 18 business announcements. January 2024 saw at least 24, which had the most openings of that year. January 2026 reported at least 20 announcements. This year saw at least 20.

New restaurants and businesses of January 2026
ACN Appliance
What: This refurbished appliance shop offers warranties, delivery and installation services and appliances, including laundry machines.
When: Jan. 12.

Alibi Coffee House
What: This coffee shop from New Mexico joined Lubbock, offering coffee, infused water, Redbull mixed drinks, protein shakes, and smoothies.
When: Jan. 3.

Atomic Allure Aesthetics
What: This salon offers cosmetics and beauty services.
When: Early January.
Where: 5302 Ave. S. Drive, Suite 17.
Buffalo Wild Wings GO at Love’s
What: Love’s Travel Stops opened its third ever BWW GO, a takeout version of Buffalo Wild Wings. It offers a smaller menu of wings, tenders, potato wedges and tater tots, along with all 26 wing sauces and seasonings.

Dunkin’
What: Another Dunkin’ location opened.
When: Early January.
Where: 804 Frankford Ave., #700.
Kleines Deutschland
What: This shop, starting online, will offer German snacks and drinks, including candy, coffee, pretzels and Mozart chocolates.

Where: Online shop based in Lubbock. Website is kleinesdeutschland.com.
Mind Body Optimization
What: This new business offers therapy and psychiatric services, both in-person and with telehealth options. It also has locations in Dallas, Forth Worth, San Antonio, Waco and Plano.

Portillo’s
What: This restaurant chain is known for Chicago street food, including Italian beef sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and chocolate cake.

Rootopia Pet Resort
What: This is a new pet boarding service.

What: This gaming store moved from X to X.

What: This new thrift shop specializes in clothing, purses, household items and jewelry.

What closed in Lubbock January 2026?
The Roof
What: The Roof had been an iconic rooftop bar at the Raider Park parking garage. It was known for stunning views and being a favorite spot for Texas Tech fans. After 13 years, the bar closed due to Texas Tech University buying the Raider Park building.
When: Jan. 5.
Where: Raider Park, on Boston Avenue near Marsha Sharp Freeway.
Here’s which rumored businesses announced or denied Lubbock-area locations in January 2026
H-E-B
Confirmed: After years of stating there were no immediate plans for a second H-E-B, the supermarket finally confirmed it was true. The new store will be at 5805 19th St. But no date for construction or a store opening has been confirmed.
Hilltop Venue at Bland Farms
Confirmed: This new event venue will have a grand opening on Feb. 1 at 12902 E. FM 40 in Acuff.
Loyal-TEA
Confirmed: This will be a coffee, tea and ice cream shop opening at 225 W. Lubbock St. in Slaton. The opening is expected for early February.
Millie’s Homemade
Confirmed: A location is listed as coming soon to 11421 Slide Road, Suite 1000.
Party Animal
Upcoming move: This locally owned party store will be moving from 6701 Aberdeen Ave. #10 to the former Mountain Hideaway Outdoor Outfitters, 4816 50th St. in March.
Pinto Ranch Fine Western Wear
Announced: This store known for handcrafted boots, hats, denim and western style will open a 4,000 sq. ft. shop in the Kingsgate shopping center. An opening timeline has not been announced.
The Corndog Company
Announced: This upcoming food truck will bring hand-dipped, honey-glazed corndogs and other items to Lubbock.
The Mahj Haus
Announced: This mahjong parlor will become a place for mahjong players. It will open at 6701 Aberdeen Ave., Suite 10 in early March.
