Gina Hinojosa on Dems, Gov. Greg Abbott on kids in Texas governor race

Democratic candidate for Texas governor Gina Hinojosa took to CNN to discuss Democratic momentum in the state.

While discussing the results of the Texas primary runoffs, Hinojosa took aim on Tuesday, May 26, at Abbott’s record of “corruption and higher prices,” noting it will make Republican reelection efforts that much harder.

She further contended this was the best chance for Democrats to turn the state blue.

“Republicans are afraid,” Hinojosa said. “Greg Abbott said to his donors last week that they are at real risk of losing seats statewide, so Republicans are playing dirty. That’s what they do, so it’s important that we have everybody participating and voting because this is our best chance as Democrats in 25 years to win.”

She again hammered Abbott on the lowest approval rating of his career and noted he told donors he was scared of losing his majority and statewide seats.

“You have Paxton and Greg Abbott – both are corrupt crooks. Greg Abbott’s given $1 billion in no-bid contracts to his donors,” she said. “He rammed through a $1 billion school voucher scam when he received the largest campaign contribution in all of Texas history from an out-of-state billionaire. That’s the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax.”

Gov. Greg Abbott strengthens foster care in Texas

Incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott honored National Foster Care Month by joining the Trump Administration’s “A Home for Every Child” initiative.

On Wednesday, May 27, Abbott, alongside Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Commissioner Audrey O’Neill and Administration for Children and Families Assistant Secretary Alex J. Adams, announced the state is joining national foster care efforts.

“Texas is honored to join the Trump Administration in its mission to ensure every child in foster care has a real chance at a permanent, loving home,” Abbott said. “By eliminating unnecessary rules and regulations, we will help more children find stability and hope. Together with our federal partners, we will deliver better outcomes for children in our foster care system.”

The initiative aims to ensure that for every child who enters foster care, a licensed foster home or kinship placement is available – achieving a home-to-child ratio greater than 1:1 across participating states.

As part of Texas’ participation in the initiative, DFPS will pursue the following priorities:

“Foster families play a critical role in partnering with case workers and families and helping children heal when they have to be separated from their parents,” O’Neill said. “Their dedication to opening their hearts and homes makes progress possible. Joining ‘A Home for Every Child’ gives us a sharper focus and stronger federal partnership to do what we’ve always been here to do.”
