George Pickens, Donovan Wilson among 4 Cowboys fined $63K for Week 7 non-penalties

Four Cowboys are a little lighter in the wallet following the team’s 44-24 win over Washington last Sunday.

Wide receiver George Pickens, running back Javonte Williams, center Brock Hoffman, and safety Donovan Wilson were fined in Week 7 by the NFL for actions taken in the game, though none of them drew a penalty flag in the moment.

Hoffman’s fine came from what the league deemed taunting. It came just two minutes into the game, as the Cowboys scored a touchdown on their opening possession. Hoffman sufficiently planted Commanders defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw on Williams’s end-zone plunge, but the television broadcast failed to capture exactly what drew a $6,111 fine for the fourth-year center.

Pickens was fined $11,593, also for taunting. His occurred just before halftime, on his 44-yard sideline catch to put the offense within scoring range. The first-year Cowboy could be seen jawing at cornerback Marshon Lattimore and then emphatically gesturing for a first down as they separated after the play. Pickens incurred two fines totaling almost $29,000 in Week 2’s win over the Giants; both were also for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Williams buried his head squarely into Lattimore’s chest on his very first rushing attempt of the game. The run ended up gaining the Cowboys nine yards, but it will cost Williams $16,830 for illegal use of his helmet.

Wilson also got dinged for illegal use of his helmet. He launched himself at Washington running back Jeremy McNichols to force him out of bounds at the Dallas two-yard-line after a 33-yard run. The move saved a touchdown (or at least delayed it by one play), but it will cost Wilson $23,186.

Again, none of those incidents were flagrant enough to warrant a penalty flag from officials during the game.

The four fines bring the total paid by Cowboys players to over $170,000 through seven games.
