Four-star prospect Davon Benjamin includes Longhorns in his top five

After one of their most successful recruiting weeks of the summer, the Texas Longhorns are again making headlines. On Tuesday, four-star CB Davon Benjamin narrowed his list down to five teams. The Longhorns were one of the five to make the cut and now hope to get a commitment from Benjamin.

As the Longhorns look to add more talent to their defense, they will have to beat out some of the top programs in the country. The other programs in Benjamin’s top five are Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and North Carolina. Currently, Oregon is viewed as the favorite, but the Longhorns aren’t giving up hope.

The talented cornerback is ranked as the fifth-best player at his position by 247Sports. They have also ranked him as the seventh-best player from California. While he has seen most of his snaps on defense, Benjamin does have the speed to be a very good wide receiver.

If Benjamin chooses Texas, he would join a talented defense. The Longhorns’ 2026 class includes five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson, Four-star edge Richard Wesley, and four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland. That group is expected to make life very difficult for opposing quarterbacks and offensive coordinators. Benjamin would give the Longhorns another elite option in the secondary.

Luckily, the Longhorns won’t have to wait long to find out where Benjamin wants to start his college career. He is set to announce his commitment in less than two weeks on August 2nd. That gives Texas 10 days to make their final pitch.

For a program that already has a 2026 class loaded with talent, Benjamin would be a valuable addition to the mix as they look to build on their success in the SEC.
