Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan and his staff have moved on from the 2025-2026 season, ending in a second-round loss to Houston in the NCAA Tournament, and while making it past the Round of 32 is the goal for every team, the fact that the Aggies made it to the big dance was a massive achievement in its own right.
Led by a roster completely rebuilt from the transfer portal, McMillan’s international offseason addition of Spanish sharpshooter Ruben Dominguez was the icing on the cake, as the standout sophomore made an immediate impact during non-conference play, going on to break Texas A&M’s single-game three-point shooting record with 10 made deep shots against Manhattan.
However, Dominguez struggled mightily during most of SEC play and was highly unreliable in clutch situations. Still, he rebounded with key wins against Kentucky and LSU and seemingly re-established his stroke heading into the NCAA Tournament. At the end of the season, rumors swirled about Dominguez possibly entering the transfer portal, which came to fruition, ending his Aggie career prematurely.
On Friday, it was revealed that Dominguez is headed to the Big East after transferring to Xavier, joining coach Richard Pitino’s 2026 roster, and hoping that a change of scenery results in more consistent play. After the news dropped, Dominguez released a statement on his Instagram page, thanking the 12th Man for supporting him during his one season in College Station.
“Texas A&M and the Aggies will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you to everyone who believed in me, supported me, and pushed me to be better every single day. I’m truly grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the relationships I’ve built along the way. This journey has meant everything to me. TIl always consider myself anAggie. Forever thankful. Gig’em.”
Ruben Dominguez finished the 2025 season averaging 10.2 points per game, shot 40.7% from the field, and 40% from beyond the arc, while leading the Aggies in three-point makes with 86 on the year.
