Less than two weeks after being drafted, former Longhorns star Aiden Robbins has signed his first MLB deal. The Pennsylvania native, whom the New York Mets selected in the third round, signed for $ 1 million on Friday. With his deal official, Robbins can now focus on starting his professional career with an iconic franchise.
After starting his college career at Seton Hall, Robbins transferred to Texas for the 2026 season. In his first season as a Longhorn, the talented outfielder set career highs in home runs with 24, runs with 68, and RBI with 64. While Robbins was adjusting to a new conference, he made the transition seem easy.
As Robbins made headlines with his bat, his success came as no surprise. In 156 collegiate gams, the newest Mets prospect posted a .355 batting average and stole 42 bases. Regardless of the opponent, he was hard to get out and showed as a Longhorn that he can change a game with his power. That is why New York made him a top 100 pick.
Robbins new deal shows that the Mets see him as a big part of their future. They went $140,100 over slot to get the former Longhorn star into the organization. If the power surge he showed in Austin continues, the Mets will be very happy with the investment just made.
Although the Holy Ghost High will have to make adjustments in the minors, he brings an impressive resume to the table. Due to his breakout 2026 campaign, Robbins was named the 2026 NCAA Austin Regional Most Outstanding Player and earned a spot on the 2026 NCAA Austin Regional All-Tournament Team. That helped raise his stock before the draft.
As Robbins moves through the Mets farm system he will be a player to watch due to the potential in his bat.
