A firefighter was injured Tuesday while battling a fire at an unoccupied central Lubbock apartment complex, officials said.
Lubbock fire crews responded to a fire in the 1700 block of 18th Street, according to a news release shortly after 3 p.m.
Arriving crews found a vacant two-story home on fire and immediately worked to extinguish the blaze, the release states.
Officials believe the fire started on a mattress in an apartment on the first floor of the building that spread up an exterior wall into the doorway of the apartment above, the release states.
One firefighter injured his leg when he stepped through a hole in the floor of the second-story apartment, the release states.
The Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
