The votes are in, and the fans have selected West Texas’ Mackenzie Elliott as the 2025 Texas Panhandle softball player of the year.
Elliott was selected among nominees from Randall, Muleshoe, River Road, Dumas, Clarendon, Claude, Bushland, and Booker. The Lady Comanches’ star received a whopping 36,859 votes, which was 45.88% of the 80,338 votes for the award.
Randall’s Landry Holcomb finished second in the poll with 19,236 votes, and Muleshoe’s Adalie Agundis came in third with 9,427 votes. For this fan poll, the Globe-News selected some of the area’s top performers from multiple classifications.
Elliott, who wrapped up her freshman year at West Texas in May, recorded a .656 batting average to go along with five home runs and 40 RBIs in her debut season with the Comanches. Elliott helped lead her team to the Region I-2A Division II semifinal series before falling to Haskell.
While there wasn’t any representatives from the Texas Panhandle at the UIL state championships in Austin, the Amarillo-area still had a strong campaign on the diamond. Clarendon made a run to the regional semifinal round of the postseason, while Dumas and River Road reached the Region I finals in their classifications.
All three of the aforementioned programs made school history with their performance in the postseason. Muleshoe also set a new program record by reaching the regional semifinals.
