While the Texas Longhorns have a bright future, they are still looking to add to their 2027 class. One area they need help at is the running back position. Luckily for Texas, four-star RB Tyson Robinson is still on the board, and his recent update provides reasons for optimism. The No. 3 RB in the 2027 class narrowed his list down to ten schools on Friday, including the Longhorns.
As Texas looks to secure a commitment from Robinson, they will face plenty of competition. The other programs still in the mix are Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Michigan, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arizona State. Following a stellar start to his high school career, the heavy interest comes as no surprise.
Currently, the Brandon High star is ranked as the fourth-best player from Mississippi by 247Sports Composite. They also rank the four-star prospect as the 74th best player in the nation. That is partly due to his breakout 2024 season.
During his sophomore campaign, Robinson recorded 1,295 rushing yards on 176 carries. He also found the end zone 24 times while hauling in 42 catches for 668 yards. One of the reasons Robinson is highly regarded is because he can make an impact in various ways. His playmaking ability would be a significant boost to any offense and would be a perfect fit for the Longhorns’ system.
For Steve Sarkisian and his staff, the best step will be getting Robinson to campus for a visit. If they can continue to build their relationship with Robinson, that is a very real possibility. At the moment, Texas is also in need of a recruiting win after four-star linebacker Taven Epps, who was the Longhorns’ only commit in the 2027 class, decommitted.
Over the next few months, Texas will be a program to watch. They are more motivated than ever to add to their future, and Robinson has the potential to be a special player.
