The iconic Kohlberg mansion, celebrated for its craftsmanship and incredible views of Downtown El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, is on the market for $1.2 million. The stately residence at 525 Corto Way was constructed in 1910 for Ernst and Olga Kohlberg. Ernst Kohlberg was an El Paso civic leader and founder of the first cigar factory in the Southwest, while Olga is famous as a women’s rights activist of her time and is credited with founding the first kindergarten in Texas.

She’s also the person Kohlberg Elementary was named after.

Famed architect Henry Trost designed the grand home in the Sunset Heights Historic District in the architectural style of Mediterranean Revival. The roofing tile, exterior finish, exterior doors and windows, and cement plaster finish are original to the more than 5,030 square-foot house. The landscaping and first-floor interior rooms have been restored to their 1910 condition.

“The home blends historic character with comfortable livability, featuring gracious formal and informal spaces, abundant natural light, and exceptional craftsmanship throughout,” the listing for the home reads. “Very few properties offer this level of architectural pedigree, history, and presence.”
