Texas A&M finished the 2025-2026 regular season with a 21-11 record, including an 11-7 finish in SEC play, as first-year head coach Bucky McMillan deserves a ton of credit for building a depleted roster, and motivating a group of offseason transfers to to play well enough throughout the season to win 20-plus games, and secure five Quad 1 victories to solidify a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Over the last two weeks, the Aggies were widely projected as a 10-seed, especially after losing to Oklahoma 83-63 in the second round of the SEC Tournament, but given their strong finish to the regular season, McMillan’s veteran squad was guaranteed a spot in March Madness, no matter how the rest of the conference tournament slate transpired.
On Sunday afternoon, Texas A&M officially booked its ticket to the NCAA Tournament, earning one of four 10-seeds, and will face 7-seed Saint Mary’s on Thursday afternoon at 6:45 CT. On paper, this isn’t the best matchup for the Aggies, who have been undersized throughout the season after losing Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako for the year.
Saint Mary’s is the 13th largest team in the country, possessing three players who are at least 7’0″, so for the Aggies to have a shot at pulling off the upset, and likely facing Houston in the second round in Houston, Texas. However, if Texas A&M plays at a fast pace, forces enough turnovers, and shoots 45% or better from beyond the arc, I can see A&M pulling off the upset.
