Dallas Cowboys to sign former No. 1 picks Jadeveon Clowney to bolster sagging defense

Coming off their first win of the year, the Dallas Cowboys are getting a reinforcement in the form of Jadaveon Clowney.

The Cowboys, who struggled defensively against the Giants despite the wn, are adding the defensive tackle for a one-year deal worth up to $6 million.

Clowney was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft by the Houston Texans, then played for six teams. Last year he had 5 1/2 sacks for Carolina.

“He has been an outstanding player, and he’ll add some real depth,” Jones said after Dallas’ 40-37 overtime win over the Giants. “And he’s very credible and he’ll help us. It’s the kind of thing that we will continue to do. It’s a lot of the reason we handle our roster the way that we have it, so we can do these kinds of things.”

Dallas can use the help. The Cowboys opened as one-point underdogs for Sunday afternoon’s game at the Chicago Bears.
