Texas sports teams offered condolences to those affected by the Hill Country floods this past weekend, and the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and the NFL combined to send $1.5 million to aid relief efforts. The three Texas NBA teams are sending $2 million.
“Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation and loss of life by the floods in Kerr County and Texas Hill Country, especially for the young girls and their families, as well as all of those lost and their loved ones,” the Cowboys said on social media. “This has been devastating to see, and we hold everyone impacted in our thoughts and prayers.”
The other Texas pro sports teams offered similar sentiments. The three Texas NBA teams — the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs — along with the NBA and the NBA Players Association, issued a joint statement on Instagram announcing that they had donated $2 million to relief efforts.
They said: “The NBA family is heartbroken by the loss of life and the devastation caused by the flooding across the Texas Hill Country. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy and we extend our deepest gratitude to the heroic first responders and volunteers. Amid so much sorrow we are inspired by the strength of the Texas community as it comes together during this incredibly difficult time. In that spirit, the NBA, the NBAPA, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs are joining together to provied more than $2 million to support immediate and long-term relief to those most impacted.”
Other Texas pro sports teams followed suit.
“The Rangers Organization stands ready to assist those who are suffering in the coming days and months,” the Texas Rangers said.
“The entire Stars organization is heartbroken by the devastating flooding and heartbreaking loss of life in Central Texas,” the Dallas Stars said.
“To those grieving unimaginable losses, and to the families of the missing, we stand with you in sorrow and in hope,” the Dallas Wings said on social media. “As a women’s sports organization, the tragedy at Camp Mystic hits especially close to home.”
