Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown gains key ally entering important contract year

DeMarvion Overshown is entering an important year as a Cowboys linebacker. The upcoming season, his fourth, will be the last under his rookie contract, which means both the 25-year-old and the organization will very soon start thinking seriously about what they want their relationship to look like for the future.

Now Overshown has added a key ally to his side for those talks.

The Texas native and former Longhorns standout has hired agent David Mulugheta of Athletes First to represent him moving forward.

Cowboys fans know Mulugheta’s name, of course. He was a central figure in the Micah Parsons saga of the 2025 offseason, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believing he and Parsons had hammered out an agreement on a contract extension without Mulugheta. Parsons later tried to introduce Mulugheta to finalize negotiations, but things fell apart quickly, and a frustrated Cowboys front office traded the disgruntled Parsons to Green Bay just before the start of the season.

Mulugheta also represents Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens. The Cowboys have placed the $27.3 million franchise tag on Pickens for the 2026 season rather than enter into talks about a long-term deal that would likely earn Pickens far more on an annual average basis.

The Cowboys said last week that there would be no talks about a long-term deal, stating they were content to let Pickens play the coming season on the tag and revisit the situation next year. Stephen Jones characterized talks with Mulugheta to that point as being “cordial.” For his part, Pickens indicated late last week he would sign the tag, obligating him to participate in all team workouts and practices for players under contract.

How Mulugheta will navigate the contractual waters with the Cowboys and Overshown has yet to be determined, but the agent’s involvement signals yet another high-profile negotiation.

A primary component will be Overshown’s health.

Overshown was a third-round pick in the 2023 draft. And while he’s been electrifying when he’s actually on the field, his young career has already been hampered by two devastating knee injuries. Of the 52 games the Cowboys have played (playoffs included) since Overshown joined the team, he has appeared in just 19 of them.
