Under Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys have become the world’s most valuable and iconic sports franchises. The glitz and glamour that comes with the Cowboys’ brand is that they’re talked about, a lot. Being so recognizable and popular means the Cowboys are often the lead for NFL talk shows.
However, Jones’ team doesn’t just get talked about by football shows, they sometimes get mentioned on other platforms. Such was the case when the Cowboys were brought up on ESPN’s NBA show, and the team caught a stray from former player Charles Barkley.
Barkley, who has never been shy from speaking his mind, said the quiet parts out loud. Networks love to bring up the Cowboys to drive ratings, regardless of the current topic. Or if they’re even relevant to the sport. The Cowboys have nothing to do with the NBA, yet here they are getting mentioned out of the blue.
It doesn’t matter if the team is good or bad, the Cowboys stay in the news. Jones loves his team being the center of attention because it inevitably means dollars in his pocket, which is mainly all he cares about.
The Hall of Fame basketball player also nailed his analysis of the Cowboys. The defense is bad, but they wouldn’t have been this bad if they didn’t trade star pass rusher Micah Parsons.
Jones and the Cowboys are always an easy target, and the team took a shot from an unlikely source, a show not dedicated to football. If that doesn’t tell you they’re America’s Team, nothing will.
And none of it bothers Jerry Jones; as they say in Hollywood, it’s an honor just to be mentioned!
