When Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gets in front of a microphone, fans are bound to hear just about anything. This time Jones was in a more upbeat mood as he discussed the Micah Parsons trade (again), Quinnen Williams’ new deal, and his expectations for the preseason. As Dallas prepares to face the defending champion Seattle Seahawks, Jones said he’s especially interested in seeing what the team’s younger players can do:
“As a fan, it gives you a chance to see the future and get to see a part of the journey to come in and be evaluated. That’s what you see in these preseason games. I’ve always thought that for fans, they were a real treat to just look at the evaluation of the younger guys as they go out.”
Clearly, Jones has an eye on the future, and plenty of young Cowboys will get their opportunity Saturday night to show they belong.
One veteran still trying to prove himself is right tackle Terence Steele. Unfortunately, the reports from the joint practices against the Los Angeles Rams haven’t been encouraging. Steele has continued to handle his business in the run game, but his pass protection has been a concern. Most notably, his struggles came against Rams edge rusher Byron Young, not even the top pass rusher on Los Angeles’ roster.
That’s not exactly a comforting sign for a Cowboys team that needs its offense to get off to a fast start while a retooled defense finds its footing early in the season.
