Cowboys agree to terms with UFL depth as minicamp ends; end of the road for WR, CB, OL

The Cowboys and head coach Brian Schottenheimer have canceled the final scheduled practice of minicamp, sending the team off early to begin a month-long break.

When they next reconvene, it will be in Oxnard, Calif. for training camp. All of them, that is, but the three who were released on Thursday, to be replaced by a trio of UFLers who are officially being added to the roster.

Wide receiver Denzel Mims, cornerback Ameer Speed, and offensive lineman Chris Glaser have all agreed to terms with the club, as reported by ESPN’s Todd Archer.

That spells the end of the road for wide receiver Romello Brinson and cornerback Corey Ballentine, who were released outright, as well as offensive lineman Matt Hennessy, who was moved to injured reserve, ending his 2026 season before it even began.

Hennessy, who recently underwent neck surgery to repair a disk issue, was originally expected to start camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. A third-round draft pick by Atlanta in 2020, Hennessy has 24 career starts, including two last year for San Francisco.

Ballentine was a sixth-rounder for the Giants back in 2019 and had bounced around the league since, spending time with eight different clubs before landing with Dallas in 2025. He got into five games for the Cowboys last season but saw just limited snaps, mostly on special teams.

Brinson had joined the team just this spring. An undrafted free agent out of SMU, he faced a very long climb up a Dallas depth chart that features over a dozen wide receivers.

Mims should immediately slot in ahead of several of them. The Cowboys looked hard at the speedster as he came out of Baylor in 2020 but were able to get CeeDee Lamb in the first round instead. Mims went the Jets 42 picks later, but he never quite clicked; he’s been in the UFL for their past two seasons.

Speed’s story mirrors Ballentine’s closely: a sixth-round pick who’s played mainly special teams with multiple organizations, looking for a breakout moment. The difference? Speed is four years younger, four inches taller, and 20 pounds bulkier. He’s coming off a strong showing for the Houston Gamblers.

Glaser has played with the Chiefs, Jets, and Bears in the NFL and spent the spring with the Columbus Aviators. This will technically be his second tour with the Cowboys; he was on the practice squad in Dallas for one week in 2023 before being poached midseason by New York.

At the time of this writing, the Cowboys have one roster spot left open.
