Corpus Christi police arrest man suspected in Southside shooting death

A 20-year-old man was taken into police custody and faces a murder charge related to a Southside shooting death on July 13, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3500 block of Greenwich Drive at 11:32 p.m. and discovered a man who had died of a gunshot wound, the department said in an online post.

Officers arrested Markus Benavidez on scene as he matched the description on the call, the department said. 

Benavidez was transported along with a witness to the police station to be interviewed.

The people involved knew each other, and the shooting is an isolated incident, the department said. 

The investigation is active and ongoing.
