Coronado High School junior tennis player Makenzie Baptist earned a silver medal at the Class 6A Texas UIL state tournament in San Atonio.
In Friday’s title match, Baptist lost in three sets to Ahona Chowdhury of Conroe The Woodlands. Chowdhury won 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2.
Baptist reached the finals by defeating Samantha Gottfried of Pearland Dawson 6-3, 6-1 in Friday morning’s semifinals.
On Thursday, Baptist defeated Milagro Wilson of Austin Vandegrift 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round.
The second-place finish for Baptist capped a 2026 season in which she also won the District 1-6A title and Region 1-6A title.
