Texas A&M’s 2025 running back room is headlined by the return of senior back Le’Veon Moss, while sophomore Rueben Owens and senior Amari Daniels provide adequate depth and separate skillsets that also add to the passing game next season.
However, Moss and Owens are coming off of season-ending injuries, meaning the first two games against UTSA and Utah State are crucial to finding a rhythm before facing Notre Dame on the road. Right now, Owens is slated to earn the No. 2 spot, and essentially share the job with Daniels, but from a national perspective, Daniels looks like the primary backup until Owens proves otherwise.
On Monday, College Sports Wire’s Lauren Beasley ranked her top 10 SEC running backs, and to much surprise, Beasley placed Amari Daniels at No. 5 and Le’Veon Moss at No. 7, because, like I said, those outside of the Texas A&M media sphere possess different opinions about the Aggie backfield from a talent perspective.
Here is Beasley’s take on Amari Daniels:
“Daniels quietly slipped into the Aggies’ backfield in 2024, carrying 139 times for 661 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 4.8 carries with a long run of 71 yards and seven catches. He also forced 19 missed tackles on the season. Now, with Le’Veon Moss recovering, Daniels returns and is well-suited for the job. He knows how to burst up the middle and works hard on pass protection. His key strengths include a nose for the hole, durability, and receiving skills out of the backfield. The concerns are his 4.8 average yards per carry. He is solid but not explosive.”
Here is Beasley’s take on Le’Veon Moss:
“Moss had an outstanding season in 2024, amassing 785 yards and 10 touchdowns before a knee injury cut his 2024 season short. With Moss healthy, the Aggies could have one of the SEC’s most dynamic combos with Moss, Daniels, and Rueben Owens. Moss’s running style is long and is tailored for smash-mouth football. He is well-balanced in contact and has the ability to break long runs if he is fully recovered by the start of the season.”
Moss’s powerful running style combined with Daniel’s burst and acceleration give way to Rueben Owens having a pathway towards improvement, so it’s fair to say that while most, including myself, would have ranked Moss higher, Beasley’s nailed here descriptions and potential for this group.
