Need gift ideas for teachers?
Many schools or teachers share a list of their favorite items ahead of Teacher Appreciation Week — but if yours doesn’t, here’s what other educators say they love receiving.
In a Reddit thread for early childhood education professionals, one user asked: “What’s the best gift you’ve ever received as a teacher?”
A similar question popped up in the broader “Teachers” subreddit: What gifts do teachers ACTUALLY want?
In total, the two Reddit threads received more than 300 responses — and the top answer on both? A “handwritten card” or “heartfelt note.” Many teachers said that a sincere message meant more to them than anything else. That said, pairing it with a gift card is always a welcome bonus.
Other popular gift ideas included:
Some teachers also shared more unique favorites — like fresh produce from a family garden/tree or a gift certificate for a massage at a local spa.
As for what to avoid? It varies by teacher, but one user offered this advice:
“Personally, I’d stay away from lotions, perfumes, and similar items because of preferences and allergies. A cute alternative might be a wax warmer, fuzzy socks, or a nice water bottle — along with a gift card to Bath & Body Works so they can choose their own scent.”
They added, “I’d also maybe shy away from mugs. There are some super cute ones, for sure, and this might be an unpopular opinion — but I got so many teacher mugs that my cabinet is full. A good alternative could be a nice water bottle or travel cup.”
