The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is taking a harder look at what appeared to be the accidental death of a truck driver near Bellevue on Feb. 6, according to a CCSO media release.
Sandeep Singh, 34, of Manteca, California, was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash near Bellevue, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a Feb. 7 media release.
Sheriff Sidney Horton said in a media release Friday that a probe into what appeared to be a fatal traffic accident has led investigators to reclassify the case as a questionable death investigation.
“Investigators developed information indicating the individual sustained an injury prior to the vehicle leaving the roadway,” Horton said in the media release.
“Anyone who was in the Bellevue area or surrounding areas between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Feb. 6 is asked to report anything unusual,” he said. “This includes hearing gunshots, observing possible road hunting activity, or noticing nighttime varmint or feral hog hunting in the area.”
Horton said his office is working closely on the case with the 97th District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers.

According to the DPS media release, the one-vehicle crash happened 10:27 p.m. Feb. 6 on U.S. Highway 287 at Belknap Creek Road about 1 mile southeast of Bellevue.
Singh was driving a 2025 Freightliner truck towing a 2019 Great Dane semi-trailer traveling northwest, and the vehicle drifted off the highway to the right, went up an embankment and struck a railroad car on the tracks, the DPS said.
The truck then rolled onto its left side and came to rest, the DPS said.
