A San Angelo institution is spreading farther through the Big Country.
City National Bank was originally founded in Colorado City in 1900 as the City National Bank of Colorado before the community added “City” to the town’s name. The bank expanded to San Angelo in 2019 and is expanding to Abilene.
According to a press release, City National Bank on Tuesday acquired Citizens Bank, which has branches in Abilene and Knox City as well. The “strategic acquisition strengthens City National Bank’s commitment to growth” while still providing financial services to Texas communities.
Wrey Montgomery, President and CEO of City National Bank, lauded the shared values of both institutions.
“Both banks share a strong legacy of community banking, customer care, and building lasting relationships,” he said in the release. “This acquisition allows us to expand our reach while maintaining the personalized service our customers expect.”
Officials promised “a seamless transition” with no disruption to customer accounts. More information on account updates, expanded services, branch operations and other adjustments will be released in coming weeks.
