Texas A&M’s 2026 season is less than three months away, and for the third straight season, quarterback Marcel Reed will lead the offense after throwing for a career high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, but struggled in the final two losses, producing four turnovers against Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
This offseason, third-year coach Mike Elko made several staff changes, elevating wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins to the program’s new offensive coordinator, promoting assistant Joey Lynch to quarterbacks coach, and naming defensive assistant Lyle Hemphill defensive coordinator, replacing Jay Bateman.
Behind Marcel Reed, Miles O’Neill transferred to North Carolina this offseason, which was understandable given his fit with the program and ability to contend for a starting spot elsewhere, leading to former four-star prospect and Michigan flip Brady Hart becoming the Aggies’ No. 2 signal-caller, followed by freshman Helaman Casuga, who will likely serve as the third-string option.
This spring, Brady Hart was one of several standouts, looking more comfortable in the pocket, and during the Maroon & White Game, he connected with Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton for several impressive throws, while his best pass came under pressure, connecting with receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman down the seam.
Last season, Marcel Reed’s toughness was on full display, starting all 13 games, while only leaving the huddle once against Texas before returning. While his importance can’t be overstated, having a more experienced Brady Hart, who already understands the offense and what OC Holmon Wiggins expects, provides Mike Elko a trustworthy option in emergency situations.
Compared to the rest of the SEC, Athlon writer Steven Lassan spoke with That SEC Podcast host Michael Bratton and released his SEC QB room rankings, placing Texas A&M at No. 7, while Texas, Ole Miss, and Georgia rank in the top 3. While this can be debated, the lack of combined experience behind Marcel Reed is understandable, but given Brady Hart’s impressive spring performance, No. 7 feels respectable.
