Happy Pride Month. June is the month that celebrates the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community.
The month of June provides an opportunity to honor the history, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community while also celebrating with unique events. It is observed around the country with many events, including parades, drag shows, brunches and more.
In El Paso, the city started getting ready for Pride Month by bringing out the rainbow colors to Downtown El Paso street intersections. The nonprofit organization El Paso Sun City Pride plans to be loud and proud, offering a full month of activities.
Among the key events will be the Pride Parade Saturday, June 27, in Downtown El Paso.
Here is what to know about Pride Month 2026.
When is Pride Month?
Pride Month is observed in June each year. It was started to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
The word “Pride” is used to describe festivities in support of gay rights. It is also used by members of the LGBTQ+ community to express their opposition to discrimination.
Pride-themed cylinders surround Pride Square
The city of El Paso installed Pride-themed decorative cylinders on streetlights around Pride Square in Downtown El Paso to recognize Pride Month.
The installation adds colorful visual elements to the downtown area on Stanton Street, between Franklin and Missouri avenues, creating a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors during Pride Month activities and events across the community.
